I finally, finally, finally watched Coco — many months in the making. Unsurprisingly, Pixar delivered spectacularly yet again. The movie was amazingly well-animated. The story line was really good and the colors and animation details were really amazing: the first sight of the Land of the Dead was truly breath-taking. I also couldn’t get over the amount of detail and attention given to individual characters — especially in great-grandmother Coco’s character design and in the patterns on the alebrijes (spirit animals). The music, which was extremely important to the story line, was memorable and well-composed — special shout out to “Remember Me.”
I cried like a baby at the end of the movie, but the movie was definitely all that everyone said it was. 10/10 worth the watch; my only regret was that I waited so long and didn’t watch in the theaters. I would imagine the animation would have truly been magical on the big screen — especially the intricately detailed and beautifully colored Land of the Dead. I give the movie a 9/10 and would highly recommend it to anyone who likes animated movies, but hasn’t gotten around to watching it yet.
