Shelled out money and went to go see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 today. Yooooooo, Marvel movies have lately been a hit or miss lately, but the last two I’ve seen (Dr. Strange and Guardians) were both hits. Be wary of spoilers up ahead.
What I liked
+ The movie does not take itself seriously. A mild problem I have with the Avengers is that it tries to take itself seriously sometimes (i.e. Age of Ultron, which was a trash movie). But, the story, the characters, the dialogue of Guardians has some emotional/heavy themes and motifs, but it’s just having fun and joking around the entire time. Even through the heavy-duty feels.
+ The soundtrack was once again super amazing. AND the music itself played a bigger role for more of the characters this time around and I 100% appreciated.
+ Stan Lee cameos are just getting funnier. But in general, the main cast was pretty good like last time. Kurt Russell was a nice addition, even if temporary one.
What I didn’t like
+ It was a tad long, but I didn’t feel the length as much as I did for previous marvel movies.
+ There is a slight risk that Guardians won’t be able to keep up this freshness and will get stuck in that same Marvel paradigm. A lot of new characters were introduced this time around compared to the last. Or at least a lot of new characters who are supposed to stick around, such as the ever too proud Sovereign people who are not compelling enough antagonists, but had to be introduced to set the premise for movie 3. *sigh*
In any case, if you liked the first Guardians of the Galaxy, you’ll like the second one (most likely). Even if you don’t like the movie, you’ll enjoy the soundtrack. You’re welcome.
