Taking place in 1977 Los Angeles, the movie follows an unlikely pairing, an enforcer Jackson Healy (Crowe) with a mild conscience and a spineless private investigator Holland March (Gosling), as they try to find a missing woman whose life appears to be on the line. Helping out the pair is Holland’s daughter, Holly (Angourie Rice), who is marginally more competent than the pair combined.
I actually really enjoyed The Nice Guys. Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe were very well cast and they played off of each other the entire movie. The movie was dark and slapstick, but funny. Fast-paced, with a witty script, and Ryan Gosling’s physical comedy, this comic noir film definitely was a pleasure to watch. Although it probably isn’t for all audiences, I definitely recommend it as a good way to pass the evening. Oh I also really liked the backdrop of the movie (1977 LA); been listening to Earth, Wind & Fire since.
